Hello all, I am planning to replace the fanbelts on my 1988 740 2.3 carb estate. I understand that it is a fairly straightforward operation, but are there any pitfalls? Hopefully it will be an wasy job! regards, JM
Yes it's a straightforward job replacing the fanbelts - if you have two make sure you buy a matched pair. Depending on the alternator you may have the 'adjuster' type mounting where you loosen the mountings and turn an adjuster bolt to position the alternator, otherwise it's just like any other setup. Check the lower mounting bolt for the adjuster bracket (bolts to the engine block) as it sometimes shears off.
funny thing, fate. Was just about to move it to do this job when it wouldnt dtart... starter motor problems me thinks. Anyway, I'll have a go at the starter motor and the belts as one job... Oh dear.!
