Hello, Bought a 850 TDI recently. Oil was changed recently and now i notice that if the car has been stood overnight, when first started the oil pressure warning lamp takes about 3 seconds to go out, it is the last light to go out. Also if the car is stood for about an hour after running there is about a 1 second delay in the lamp going out. If i stop the engine and start again 30 seconds later, the lamp goes out immediately. Is this normal? Im sure it was not doing it before the oil was changed. If its any help, the garage that did the oil used a Mann filter i think. Could this be an issue with a non-return valve??

This came up a few months ago (try a search?) and those of us who posted agreed that it seems normal for it to take a few seconds for the oil pressure light to go out on a cold start. Sounds OK to me. The filter point is a good one and while I don't know about Mann filters, I always prefer to use a Volvo one (I don't recall them being expensive). Hope you enjoy the car - my V70 is reasonably refined and quick, and economical at the same time! Ian

My V70 TDi has always done just that for as long as I've had it and it has a genuine Volvo filter and whatever oil the local dealer is using at the time (usually Castrol SLX I think). It's not altered over the last 90,000 miles. I've now accepted that that's just what it does and have stopped worrying about it although it did bother me at first Martin

Vlovo filters are made by Mann. Both have a non-return valve. jor

i only discovered my car doing this after a oil change, so i swapped the filters and it still does it, when i did the oil change a put a fram on it and when i swaped then i put a mann filter on it, also i took the unipart filter that was originally on it appart and the fram filter and found there basicly identical inside but the unipart has a stronger spring for the non return vavle

I had exactly the same problem found it to be the filter it was a WIX changed it for a bosch and the problem went away now use a bosch or mann no problem. Its a bit scarey when you see the oil pressure light on after the engine been running a short while , also i noticed that there was less oil in the WIX filter when i removed it than there is in the others so it would seem to be draining when left to stand.
